As you probably know, Will Smith is NOT in the upcoming “Independence Day” sequel, “Independence Day:  Resurgence”.  And it was HIS decision not to return.  So he had to be written out.  And now we know what happened to him.  If you don’t want to know, you should probably tune us out for the next few minutes:

It turns out Will’s character, Steven Hiller, is DEAD.  He was killed in 2007 while test-piloting a new alien-hybrid fighter.  It’s not really a secret.  The info has been sitting all along on the movie’s very cool website, WarOf1996.com.

The site tells you everything you need to know about what’s happened since the original alien invasion in 1996.  And if you move the timeline to 2007, you’ll see what happened to Hiller.

And even though Will opted out of the sequel, he’s a little down about it.  He says, “I’m going to be sitting around with tears in my eyes when that one comes out.  It was terrible when I found out my character died.”
