A high school English teacher near Dallas named Kyle Simpler turned 56 recently. And he mentioned in one of his classes last week that he couldn’t remember the last time he had a birthday cake, but it was at least ten years ago.
So some of his students started scheming. And when he showed up to class later in the week, there was a surprise party waiting for him. They put up streamers and balloons, brought cards and presents for him, sang “Happy Birthday” when he walked in the door, and had a cake waiting for him on his desk.
According to his students, he talks about his cat constantly. So they had a photo of a cat printed on the cake. And a video they posted of him reacting racked up thousands of hits on Twitter over the weekend. (Here’s the video.)

Kyle told the local news it’s the type of thing that makes him glad he became a teacher. (Check out photos of Kyle and the cake here.)
