Five Random Facts for Tuesday

Here are some random facts for you.

1.  The first vertebrate to mate in space orbit was not humans.  It was “medaka,” or Japanese rice fish.  A batch of healthy fry hatched on the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1994.

2.  Wall Street got its name in the 17th century when Dutch settlers built a 12-foot wall to defend themselves from pirates and Native Americans.

3.  A blue whale’s tongue can weigh as much as an elephant, and their heart can weigh as much as a car.

4.  The theme song for the “Daily Show” is called “Dog on Fire”, and it’s been the theme, in some variation, since the show premiered in 1996.

5.  J.D. Salinger’s girlfriend left him in 1942 and married Charlie Chaplin.  Her name was Oona O’Neill, and her father was Eugene O’Neill, the famous playwright.
