It’s almost hard to believe, but 50 years ago, if someone wanted to write someone a note, they got out a notepad and a pen. Someone using the name “Infamous Horse” recently asked the internet, “What current technology do you think will seem ridiculous in 50 years?” And some of the most interesting answers include:
1. Charging cables. People will say, “Wait, you had to physically plug in your devices every day?”
2. Dental work. “Anything regarding present-day dental work will be seen as barbaric. Ditto for chemotherapy.” Someone else said medical devices, like CT scan machines.
3. Loud engine noise. “Internal combustion engines. I long for the day I don’t have to hear loud cars, chainsaws, and mowers.”
4. Trash. It’s not that there will be a solution to existing waste, it’s that most everything will be reusable.
5. Car accidents. “Autonomous vehicles would work together to make the current number of car fatalities seem ridiculous.”
6. Game consoles. “They will be replaced with streaming services.”
7. The “internet of things”. “Nobody needs their toaster or toothbrush connected to the internet.” (Sorry, but it could also be the reverse. That it would be weird if something WASN’T “smart,” online, or linked to A.I.)
8. Toilet paper. “It seems to be such a medieval method for something we use so much. It’s a waste, it’s unhygienic, and causes all kinds of sewer problems.”
(What about actual mobile phones? We could transition into wearable / environmental technology that would make it pointless to carry around a BRICK in your pocket.)
