How Long Will the Government Shutdown Last? Here’s America’s Best Guess

It’s Day Two of the government shutdown, and no one knows how long it could last.  But it’s not stopping people from offering up their best guess.  (Congress is off for Yom Kippur, so it’s not ending today at least.)

Someone polled over 3,000 Americans.  And despite what some insiders are saying, most Americans DON’T think it will last very long.

Over half of us think the government will open back up before the end of October.  That includes one in six who said by the end of the week.  The most common answer was a week or two.

Only 9% think it’ll last more than a month.  36% said they have no clue, and wouldn’t even venture a guess.

If history is an indicator, it probably WON’T last a month, but it could.  We’ve had 20 shutdowns in the past 50 years, and the average is about a week.  The longest ever was 34 days during President Trump’s first term.  That one started just before Christmas in 2018.
