Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, and I know what everyone is thinking, “Is it too late to order something that looks thoughtful, or do I have to venture into a red-and-pink warzone at an actual store?” (Yeah, I think you do.)
Here are some random, fun “Valentines” from around the internet:
1. According to OpenTable, 57% of Americans believe Valentine’s Day is becoming more about celebrating ALL relationships, not just romantic ones, and Gen Z is leading that trend.
Also: The Top Three “red flags” for a dinner date are: Your date is rude to restaurant staff, your date doesn’t have table manners, and your date complains about the restaurant.
The Top Three “green flags” for a date are: Your date leaves a generous tip, your date offers to cover the whole bill, and your date goes out of their way to compliment the service.
2. A recent poll asked people in relationships, “Who is typically the person primarily responsible for planning Valentine’s Day activities?” 20% of people said “me”, 13% said “my partner”, 45% said “both of us equally”, and 20% said “neither of us.”
37% of people said they do plan to do SOMETHING for Valentine’s Day, 45% said they don’t, and 19% aren’t sure.
3. You might leave your heart in San Francisco, but it is #1 on a list of the Best Cities to celebrate Valentine’s Day. San Diego is second, followed by Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Seattle. On the flipside, Detroit is one of the worst places.
4. A lot of big cities are popular for Valentine’s Day, but they can be very expensive, especially Boston, Jersey City, and New York City. If you’re looking for a CHEAP alternative to spend the weekend, consider Reno, Nevada, Arlington, Texas, and Little Rock, Arkansas.
Surprisingly, San Francisco was the FOURTH cheapest.
5. The 10 U.S. cities with the highest odds of HEARTBREAK are mostly in Florida, with The Villages, Largo, Cape Coral, North Port, Palm Coast, and Hialeah all in the Top 10 nationwide.
Santa Fe, New Mexico and Spokane, Washington also have high odds of heartbreak, along with Medford, Oregon and Henderson, Nevada.
6. 36% of people plan to buy chocolate for themselves this Valentine’s Day, and 61% say they want chocolate for Valentine’s, regardless of their relationship status.
Also: 60% of people are deal-hunters who admit to waiting for discounted chocolate and candy AFTER Valentine’s Day.
7. 31% of people say you can kiss someone, even if you’ve been “seeing them” for less than a week. 35% say you should wait to kiss someone until you have been seeing them for “1 week to 1 month.”
Also: 2% of people are weirdos who say you should date someone for at least ONE WEEK before you buy a home together. And another 1% say one week is the minimum you should date before having a child. (???)
8. People who are NOT in a relationship were asked how they will celebrate Valentine’s Day. 9% said they’ll give someone a card, 5% say they’ll share a meal with someone at home, 5% say they’ll go out to dinner with someone, and 1% say they plan to “have sex.”
9. A new survey of 100,000 college students found that 35% of Gen Z adults admit they’ve texted or scrolled social media DURING sex.
23% of Gen Z’ers admit to having had sex with a roommate in the room, and 8% did it with their roommate AWAKE.
10. What do American couples argue about? The most common issues are: “Tone of voice or attitude, communication styles, and money.
Women also say: Emotional needs is a factor, along with life decisions, household chores, family relationships, and “amount of quality time together.”
Men agree with those, but they are also more likely to mention: Health and lifestyle decisions, along with food choices, driving, and “major purchases.”
11. “Rotten Tomatoes” has a list of HORROR movies you could watch on Valentine’s Day. They include: “The Loved Ones”, “Let the Right One In”, “Bride of Frankenstein”, “It Follows”, and “The Love Witch”.
