Ever looked at a bowl of chicken soup and thought, “This would be better with a little VODKA in it”? (???)
Bone broth cocktails are the hot new trend at bars. “Food & Wine” just did a big story on it. It’s part of the “put more protein in everything” trend.
Bone broth is typically used as a base for soups. It’s made by boiling beef, chicken, or other types of bones in water for a few hours. Most people just buy it at the store. It can have up to 10 grams of protein per serving.
As weird as it sounds, bone broth in cocktails isn’t actually a new idea. A Bloody Bull is basically just a Bloody Mary with a little bone broth mixed in. There’s a bar in New Orleans that’s been serving them since the 1950s.
There’s also a cocktail called a Bullshot that’s basically just bone broth and vodka. Yum.
If you like umami flavor, maybe give it a try. The beverage manager at that bar in New Orleans told “Food & Wine” that bone broth tends to give drinks a richer and more savory taste.
