Here are some random facts for you.
1. “Mountain Dew” was originally Southern (and Scots-Irish) slang for MOONSHINE (you know, homemade whiskey), and it was referenced in an Irish folk song called “The Rare Old Mountain Dew“, which dates back to 1882.
That was intentional. The soft drink originally leaned into its hillbilly branding.
2. There’s only one incorporated town in the U.S. with a population of ONE: Monowi, Nebraska. The woman who lives there is 91-year-old Elsie Eiler. She was born in 1934. Since she IS the population of one, she is Monowi’s mayor, bartender, cook, librarian, town secretary, and clerk. (Here’s a video interview with her from last year.)
3. James Caan was improvising when he said “bada-bing” in “The Godfather”, but then it became a catchphrase for mobsters in movies and real life.
4. Bill Withers wrote “Ain’t No Sunshine“ when he was working at a factory making toilet seats for airplanes. And he intended to write more lyrics for the part where he repeats “I know” 26 times, but other musicians told him to leave it.
5. During Prohibition, the Pabst Brewing Company stayed alive by making a cheese called Pabst-ett.
