Today is Earth Day, which is celebrated every year on April 22nd. And if you didn’t know that, you’d be in the MAJORITY.
Around 2,000 people were surveyed last month, and 23% of people said they were confident they could name the exact date of Earth Day.
Then, they were put to the test. 57% rightly said that it falls in April, and 26% did get April 22nd exactly right. Which apparently means that some people who were NOT confident did guess correctly.
Younger generations claimed a higher familiarity with Earth Day and its history: 42% of Millennials said they’re knowledgeable about it, compared to just 28% of Boomers. (Earth Day has been celebrated since 1970. Here’s more.)
Millennials were also more likely to say they do something environmental or “sustainable” to celebrate Earth Day. About 30% of Millennials said their behavior changes on April 22nd, compared to just 12% of Boomers.
That said, 44% of the Millennials who do participate admitted that their Earth-friendly change is “temporary.”
