A Gas Station Stayed Open All Night to Help Stranded Drivers

A guy named Hitesh Patel owns a gas station in Saluda, North Carolina, about 90 miles west of Charlotte.   And he usually closes at 10:00 P.M. every night.  But conditions there were pretty icy last Monday, and at least two cars slid off the road.

One of the drivers was a woman who was by herself.  The other was a woman named LaShea Colson, who had her four kids with her.  And all of them ended up at the gas station with no way to get to a hotel.  The roads were too dangerous to drive on.

So instead of closing, Hitesh stayed open all night and let everyone crash in the break room.  He gave them chairs, cots and a couch to sleep, brought in a space heater and even hooked up a TV for the kids.

He told the local news that one of them looked like his niece.  And he knew he’d want the same for her if she was the one stranded.

(Check out some photos of Hitesh and the kids here.)
