Over a Third of Us Have Worked in Retail at Some Point in Our Life

If you’ve never had a job in retail, hey, lucky you.  A poll found over a THIRD of Americans have at some point in their life.

More than 1,000 people were asked about 30 different jobs, and whether they’ve worked in each field or not.  Here are the 10 most common jobs on the list.

1.  Retail worker.  35% of us have worked in retail.  (Does “fast-food worker” count?  They didn’t ask about it separately.)

2.  Stay-at-home parent, 22%.  A tougher job than some people realize.

3.  Factory worker, 18%

4.  Teacher, 13%

5.  Construction worker, 11%

6.  Day care worker, 8%

7.  Member of the military, 7%

8.  Chef or cook, 6%

9.  Engineer, 6%  (One in 17 people have been an engineer?)

10.  Computer programmer, 5%

Of the jobs they asked about, coal miner and physics professor tied for least common, 0% of people polled said they’ve had those jobs before.  (If you’ve had both, you might be the most interesting person in the world.)

The top jobs we’d want our KIDS to pursue are doctor, scientist, and engineer.  Coal miner ranked last.
