Gen Z Is “Offloading” Their Tough Conversations to A.I.

A college student recently admitted he used ChatGPT to write a text after a blind date.  The message was six paragraphs long and carefully worded.  But his date and her friends immediately knew something was up.

So, they ran it through an A.I. detector, and it came back “99% A.I.”

Here’s how the student explained it, “I tried to write my thoughts down, but I wasn’t sure how to format this in a way that’s not, like, really bad, so then I went to Chat.”

Researchers are saying this is becoming more common.  Some young people are even using A.I. to analyze text threads to try and figure out what someone else might be thinking.

This process is called “social offloading.”  But experts are warning us that relying on A.I. for emotional conversations could weaken our communication skills.  This can make having real human connections even more difficult.
