Duchess Kate and husband Prince William found themselves in a bit of controversy after turning heads at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards Sunday, February 18.  Many female stars like Emma Roberts, Angelina Jolie and Margot Robbie wore black to the BAFTAs to follow the dress code that began at the Golden Globes, making a statement in the Time’s Up movement. However, Kate, pregnant with her third child, opted to wear a deep green Jenny Packham dress with emerald shaped earrings.  The royal family has always been expected to avoid revealing their political positions in public; however Kate still received backlash on social media for her outfit choice.

Joanna Lumley of “Absolutely Fabulous” hosted the 71st British Academy Film Awards at the Royal Albert Hall tonight, marking the first time a female has hosted the event in 17 years.  The night will be dominated by women in the film industry — as they are all coming together dressed in black, ahead of the Time’s Up movement and the signing of an open letter published in The Observer. This year’s BAFTAs shed a new light on LGBTQ filmmaking with “Call Me by Your Name” getting four nods and “God’s Own Country” making a debut in the Outstanding British Film category. Critical acclaim and huge anticipation pushed “Black Panther” to a record-setting $192 million debut in U.S. and Canada theaters, establishing the superhero sensation at the box-office. The Marvel film blew past expectations to become the fifth-highest-grossing debut ever, following only “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” ”Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” ”Jurassic World” and “The Avengers.”  On Sunday, Disney predicted a four-day holiday weekend of $218 million domestically and a global debut of $361 million. The film ranks among the top 15 global debuts ever, and it’s also the highest-grossing movie over a February opening weekend.

The latest trailer for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming sci-fi spectacular Ready Player One is all about the nostalgia and throwback pop culture references, starting with the choice of music. The new spot features a cover of “Pure Imagination” from Gene Wilder’s 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and features the movie’s hero Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) introducing us to the immersive virtual reality world known as the OASIS. In the trailer, he explains: “It’s a place where the limits of reality are your own imagination.” Ready Player One will hit theaters March 29.
