The Most Surprising Baby Name Trends in the U.S. Right Now

The Social Security Administration just released its latest baby name data, and there are some interesting trends.

Here are some of the wildest ones:

1.  The name “Maverick” is now more popular than “Thomas.”

2.  “Genesis” is more popular than “Sophie.”

3.  And “Nova” is more popular than “Grace.”

4.  One of the fastest-rising girl names is “Icelynn”, and the fastest-rising boy name is “Truce.”  Some other names that are picking up steam are:  “Halo” and “Honey.”

5.  The name “Messiah” is more popular than “Patrick”.

6.  “Sarah” peaked in popularity in 1993 as the third most popular girl name in the country, but has now slipped to #95.

7.  And the name “Donald” continues to fall.  It ranked just 672nd last year, behind the name “Sincere.”
