Stupid Criminal: A Man Tried to Escape the Police By Climbing Into a Chimney, That Was Smoking?

Don’t worry, kids, this was definitely NOT Santa.

Police in Washington were called to the address of a vacant, boarded-up house, after neighbors suspected someone was trespassing because there was SMOKE coming from the chimney.

When the cops arrived, no one would answer the door, but they could hear someone inside.

That person climbed out a second-story window, and onto the roof. The cops shouted for the guy to come down, but instead, he climbed INTO the chimney, as it was still smoking.   He quickly got stuck.

The fire department came and had to OPEN THE WALL to get him out, because there was residual, “smoldering debris in the fireplace.”  (So not an active FIRE, but not a wise “escape chute.”)

They got him out, and it sounds like he’ll be fine.  He was arrested, but was first sent to the hospital to be checked out.  It’s unclear what charges he’s facing.
